full bloom

Apologies for the dearth of postings, dearest loyal readers, but there just hasn't been much going on at the farm - this has been the "dog days of summer." There is a superb daylily farm only a couple of miles away and the plants we purchased a year ago have established themselves nicely and are in their finest form right now. I submit them (and one geranium) for your approval.

N.B.: Mr. Fuzzy's Kentucky hometown was the hottest place in America yesterday with a heat index reading of 123 yesterday. The Fuzzies are content to dwell in the Blue Ridge mountains rather than the Ohio Valley, oh yes indeed, they are...

Those blooms are simply lovely....I can almost smell their sun drenched sweetness. I'm glad to hear you are surviving these somewhat warmer days before sledding season begins again in earnest!
Your recent trials with losing your dear hens to a prowler reminded me so much of a year ago when Brian was away. I came home one evening after a concert (tsk tsk...I wasn't home to shut them in at dusk!) only to stumble over dead hens and guineas right and left. Their broken necks and still warm bodies littered the yard and pen and all I could do was wail my grief as I gathered armloads of them to my chest and carried them to the freezer for safekeeping until Brian returned. That attack was the play of a pair of dogs who live a half mile away through the woods. Their owner took responsibility for the damages and payed for all the hens replacement and even for the eggs they would have laid all summer---but it did nothing to change the feeling of loss for those dear birds that had been in my care.

JudyB-
The peach colored lily is my favorite as well, both for the very delicate color and the architecture of the petals.
